Vertical Image Test of WP Gallery

Below is the vertical image I will attempt to place in the WP gallery at the bottom of this page.

Just for the sake of comparison, below is a horizontal image that will also appear in the gallery at the bottom of the page

UPDATE: After the fix, both vertical and horizontal images appear correctly in WP Galleries, but we're still seeing issues with photos like the one below.

Is there a way to counteract this effect in the gallery settings? They used to automatically be adjusted, prior to one of the WP upgrades, and would appear as they do in the imgur gallery below.
