3 Young Children in Eastpointe Die in House Fire After Being Left Alone
Over the weekend three kids ages 4, 8 and 9, were left home alone and killed after a fire broke out. According to The Detroit News, the incident occurred around 5 a.m. Saturday on the 15000 block of Juliana Avenue, near East Eight Mile Road and Gratiot.
Two families live in the home including two mothers and five kids but two of those children were not at home at the time. It's not clear why the mothers were not at home and why in the world they would leave kids so young home alone.
The fire destroyed the interior but it's still unclear how the fire started. The public safety director of Eastpointe Police Department said there weren't any working smoke detectors in the home.
It's so hard to understand how anyone would think that leaving these kids home alone was a good idea. 9 years old is way too young to stay home alone much less in charge of two other children.
The kids were found in an upstairs bedroom.
