Michigan Parents Furious After 9-Year-Old Daughter Handcuffed at School

Parents in Northern Michigan are furious after their 9-year-old daughter was handcuffed while at school after having a mental episode during the school day.

The controversial incident occurred on Monday, September 30 in Baldwin, Michigan.

According to 9 & 10 News, the school resource officer was called in after a disagreement between the child and staff. The school claims the situation escalated to the point where the child was throwing scissors, chairs, and other items at staff. She allegedly flipped tables over as well, forcing the staff to remove other students from the classroom.

The girl's parents say their daughter has behavioral issues, which they are well aware of, having dealt with similar problems in the past. They also point out that she has ADHD and ODD (oppositional defiant disorder).

Despite their child's behavior, the parents believe the situation was mishandled and that the school needs to address incidents like this better. They claim the girl was placed in handcuffs after things had already calmed down.

According to reports, body cam footage of the incident could be released soon.

The parents have pulled their daughter from the school.

It's hard to say who, if anyone, is at fault here. Some people feel that if the child is known to have behavioral issues like this, she should perhaps be in a program where staff have more training in handling such cases.
