American Eagle Could Close Up to 30 Stores, Here’s Where Michigan Stands

American Eagle is planning to close more stores this year, and selfishly, I'm really hoping Michigan doesn't get hit too hard.

I don't buy a ton of clothes, but when it comes to jeans, American Eagle is pretty much the only place I go. I've been buying my jeans there for years. I know what size fits, I know what style I like, and I don't have to screw around trying on 15 different pairs somewhere else.

And I'm definitely not buying jeans online. That's one of those things I have to try on first.

So yeah, if American Eagle starts closing a bunch of Michigan locations, I'm going to be a little screwed.

How Many American Eagle Stores Are Closing?

According to The Street, American Eagle says it could close another 25 to 30 stores this year, with most of those closures expected to happen as leases expire.

And they’ve already started. Earlier this year, the company closed three stores in Pennsylvania.

Now, this doesn’t mean American Eagle is going out of business, far from it.

The big question for us is whether any Michigan stores will end up on the closure list. So far, American Eagle hasn’t released a full list of the locations that could be closing.

Honestly, I’d be shocked if the Birch Run location was one of them. Every time I’m in there, that place is slammed.

Where Are American Eagle Stores Still Open in Michigan?

Right now, American Eagle's store locator shows locations in 17 Michigan cities:

Ann Arbor, Auburn Hills, Birch Run, Byron Center, Clinton Township, Grand Rapids, Grandville, Howell, Lansing, Novi, Okemos, Portage, Rochester Hills, Saginaw, Taylor, Traverse City, and Troy.

American Eagle hasn’t announced that any of those Michigan stores are expected to close, but we’ll definitely keep a close eye on this one.
