According to KRON 4, the 'horse jacking' happened on Saturday, January 20th, 2024. Additional reports indicate the crime was witnessed by a truck driver who was able to describe the suspect.

What kind of a person steals an Amish family's horse and buggy from a Michigan Walmart?

Thanks to the truck driver's description, this horse and buggy bandit was eventually apprehended. The unidentified 31-year-old Sturgis woman was found at a nearby hotel and arrested on charges of larceny and larceny of livestock.

The horse and buggy were located nearby. Thankfully, according to the New York Post, the horse was found unharmed and returned to the family.

Below you can see a video from 10 months ago of a horse and buggy at this very same Walmart. We can not confirm that this is indeed the same horse and buggy that was taken - there are many Amish families currently living in Sturgis, Michigan.

According to Amish America, there are roughly 1500 Amish people in St. Joseph County. That is over one-tenth of Michigan's Amish population.

On a list of the top 10 Amish-populated states in the US, Michigan comes in at number six on the list.
