Matt Reeves Wants to Take a Cue From the ‘Planet of the Apes’ Series and Make Batman More ‘Emotional’
Matt Reeves has a pretty intimidating task ahead of him with The Batman: He’ll have to fill the shoes that Ben Affleck himself almost wore as director, and he’ll also have to make a solo superhero film that stacks up against Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, which has bested all four of its DCEU predecessors at the domestic box office. He already has a few plans up his sleeve, one of which is to make it more like Planet of the Apes.
Warner Bros. Brings ‘Blade Runner 2049,’ ‘It,’ ‘Ready Player One,’ ‘Justice League,’ and More to Comic Con
The San Diego Comic Con schedules have been rolling out all week, and Warner Bros. has a bunch of heavy hitters this year to possibly keep Marvel and Disney from stealing too much of the spotlight. Warners takes over Hall H on Saturday, July 22 at 11:30 AM, starting with a showcase of all their exciting upcoming releases, hosted by master of ceremonies Chris Hardwick.
Kevin Feige Really, Really Wants to Bring ‘Blade’ Into the MCU ‘One Day’
It seems like every few months, Marvel reminds us all that they still might include vampire hunter Blade in a future Phase or two. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige seems particularly into the idea, and recently said, yet again, that he really wants to get Blade into the MCU — and gave a very good reason for why he likes the character so much.
Matt Reeves Says He’s Going Hitchcock for ‘The Batman’
Matt Reeves is the type of director who makes action movies that are primarily character studies: the character-driven empathy of the Planet of the Apes movies were a pleasant surprise and departure from what could have been just another big-budget CGI soup. Reeves is a director who makes you care about the people in his movies, which is why he might be the best choice to direct Ben Affleck’s The Batman after Affleck himself stepped down. Reeves’ work on War for the Planet of the Apes is done, and now that he can turn his attention to his DC movie, he already knows which director he’ll turn to for guidance.
‘Black Panther’ Trailer: Welcome to Wakanda
Well, folks, here it is: possibly the most anticipated Marvel trailer in recent memory. Black Panther is the titular superhero’s first solo outing since he was introduced in Captain America: Civil War, and is also the first Marvel movie with a predominantly black cast. Welcome to Wakanda, the African nation T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) presides over, which has been in turmoil since the untimely death of T’Challa’s father, the former king. The country is also the subject of some contention due to its proximity to a very important (yet fictional) metal.

‘Suicide Squad 2’ Staring Down the Barrel of a 2018 Production Start
Because the one thing this world has been clamoring for is a Suicide Squad sequel, we’ve got a few updates on Deadshot and the gang’s next adventure. For one thing, the script is being written right now, and it looks like, although it doesn’t officially have a director, the movie is on track for a production start sometime next year.
Chad Stahelski Can Say One Thing About ‘John Wick Chapter 3’: It’s Going to Be ‘Different’
Because John Wick is terrible at retiring (and because Chapter 2 left him in quite a sticky situation that whole worldwide bounty thing and all), director Chad Stahelski is already working on the script for a third movie, and he’s very excited about all the possibilities. Wick is not part of a franchise, so all the series really depends on is Keanu Reeves’ availability and the ability of the writers and director to come up with another idea.
Is the Han Solo Movie Taking Us Back to Tatooine?
For Star Wars, a series that has become a franchise built largely upon nostalgia, returning to some of their greatest hits within their movies has become par for the course. Sure, we were introduced to something like seven completely new planets during Rogue One, but that movie still checked all the boxes: cool female protagonist, Jedi lore, Dark Side, Death Star. The Han Solo movie is also going to bring us to some completely new territory, but would it be a Star Wars movie without a visit to a certain desert planet?
‘Alien: Covenant’ Clip: The Spineburster Is Your New Worst Nightmare
Alien: Covenant is arriving soon, whether we’re ready for it or not, and a short new clip assures us that this movie is definitely more horror than sci-fi. Even these thirty seconds are enough to make one feel antsy, and the final sound effect is enough to send a million chills down the spine. The Xenomorphs are back, baby!
