A video of partygoers in West Michigan has gone viral, after showing attendees who have thrown social distancing guidelines out the window at an annual 4th of July event.

The video -- shared with the caption "A COVID-19 Petri Dish" -- is from an annual party known as the Diamond Lake SandBar. Diamond Lake is in Cass County, southwest of Kalamazoo.

Each time there's a holiday, we observe what appears to be Michiganders taking a break from protecting themselves against coronavirus.

Think about it:  Easter. Memorial Day. July 4th. We all know of people who have attended gatherings and pushed social distancing guidelines aside because they were tired of being holed up in the house. "It's a holiday. My freedoms."

The organizers of the event spoke to Fox 17, saying that they asked attendees to social distance, but said they were unable to control guests' actions. They went on to say they don't think the event will contribute to the spread of COVID-19.

As the number of coronavirus cases in Michigan continues to rise, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has once again closed indoor bar service as of last Wednesday (7/1). Michigan is once again reporting at least 300 new cases of COVID-19 almost every day since June 30.
