Add the Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament to the official list of things cancelled over concerns surrounding the Coronavirus.

Big Ten officials made the announcement on Twitter just before Noon on Thursday, along with a press release. The Big Ten joins the NBA, and many other college conference tournaments with the cancellation. The next big question is will the NCAA decide to cancel the March Madness Tournament?

The statement from the Big Ten was short and to the point.

The Big Ten Conference announced today that it will be canceling the remainder of the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament, effective immediately. The Big Ten Conference will use this time to work with the appropriate medical experts and institutional leadership to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic. The main priority of the Big Ten Conference continues to be the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, fans and media as we continue to monitor all developing and relevant information on the COVID-19 virus.

The news has received mixed reaction online, but I think everyone understands where Big Ten officials are coming from.

Everything seems to point toward the NCAA cancelling March Madness, but nothing has been made official as of yet.
