The 2018-2019 men's college basketball season officially started last night with both Michigan and Michigan State ranked in the top 25. Hoop season is literally the only reason I like winter.

The Spartans, who are again ranked in the top 10, always seem to start the season off against some of the best teams in the country. This year they took on the number one ranked Kansas Jayhawks in Indianapolis for the State Farm Classic. Even though the Spartans lost the game 92-87, playing top-ranked competitors will make the Spartans a tough team to beat later in the season.

Michigan, ranked #19, began the season at home facing Norfolk State, an easier opponent than State had. Michigan came out ahead with a 63-44 win. The Wolverines lost quite a few players from last year's team, which made it all the way to the National Championship game. They'll be looking to last year's younger players to step up and lead the way this season.

Either way, I'm excited to be watching some basketball again. Being the sports go-to here at the Banana I will be making sure to keep all you hoops fans updated throughout the season.
