DC Comics are relaunching their entire universe under The New 52 project and just announced that they will reveal a major character to be openly gay. It's about time that Robin and Aquaman came out of the closet...the question is -- which one is it?

As a die-hard Marvel fan, I've always looked at DC as the company trying to catch up. Don't get me wrong, Batman, Superman and their respective villains are awesome -- outside of that, DC comics can suck it. With Marvel you get Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man, The Punisher, The X-Men, Howard the Duck... okay, maybe not that last one but you get the idea. So it really came as no surprise when DC hit the reset button on their entire universe last year in an effort to make their heroes more contemporary.

One of the biggest changes in the universe is the addition of LGBT characters like an openly lesbian Batwoman and a bisexual known as Voodoo. Women aren't the only ones coming out though, "One of the major iconic DC characters will reveal that he is gay in a storyline in June,” DC Comics' Entertainment’s senior vice president of publicity told ABC News recently.

Although they are keeping a tight lid on the identity of the superhero in question, we all know it's going to be Aquaman or Robin. Let's examine the tell-tale signs that the ambiguously gay characters have shown over the years to try and spoil DC's surprise.

Aquaman

  • Wears what looks like an orange sequence top with green pants and gloves -- not exactly a straight man's go-to attire
  • Swims with dolphins

Robin

  • Has always admired Batman a little too much
  • Even though it was in the worst Batman movie, proudly wore a suit with nipples

Now we're not saying that these behaviors make anyone gay, or that there's anything wrong with that. To each their own. We're just doing the math here.
