Are Detroit Casinos Still Open Amid the Current Strike?
Casino workers are now on strike in Detroit as well.
Player three has entered the game as casino workers in Detroit are now on strike. The city is quickly becoming known as "Strike City." This marks the third major strike happening right now in Michigan joining the U.A.W. strike and the Blue Cross Blue Shield strike.
Last Tuesday, October 17th, casino workers in Detroit picked up their picket signs and hit the street. Around 3,700 workers from unions at MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown are now engaged in a major labor dispute. These workers include dealers, cleaning staff, valets, and food staff.
According to detroitcasinocouncil.org, the labor dispute revolves around fair wages, health insurance, and job security.
Detroit’s casino workers sacrificed raises and shouldered heavier workloads so the industry could recover from the pandemic. In September 2020, workers agreed to a three-year contract extension with minimal wage increases to help the industry get back on its feet. Since then, Detroit casino workers have received only 3% raises, but inflation in Detroit has risen 20%...detroitcasinocouncil.org.

What can you expect if you decide to go to the casino during the strike?
If you decide to go to the casinos in Detroit during the strike, it may be a stressful trip. While I haven't been there myself, a close friend of mine stayed at one of those casinos over the weekend. There are picket lines you will have to cross when you head into the parking garages. As for the casino experience, my friend told me that many options were limited during their stay. Many of the restaurants were closed, room service was not available, only one bar was open with very few options, and all the table games were closed. They were pretty much limited to only slots during their stay.
Please keep in mind, this is not me picking a side. I'm just answering questions that people have.
