You never know how fast life can change. One minute you're just pulling into the store with your kids, and the next, everything is different forever.

That's what happened to a family in Holly Township on Sunday evening, after a woman was run over and killed while holding her 1-year-old daughter.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, the incident happened around 6:30 PM outside Alex's Market and Grill off I-75.

The 29-year-old woman from Warren wasn't crossing the street or leaning into the road or anything like that. She had just parked her SUV and was standing next to it, holding her baby while helping another child out of the vehicle, when a pickup truck pulled out of a nearby parking spot and ran over both the mother and daughter.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her daughter was taken to the hospital and, incredibly, is expected to be okay.

Woman Killed, Toddler Injured by Alleged Drugged Driver in Holly Township

The driver of the truck, a 72-year-old man from Carleton in Southeast Michigan, was arrested on the spot. Troopers say he showed signs of being impaired. A drug recognition expert evaluated him, and a search warrant was issued for a blood draw. That evidence is now being reviewed.

MSP Lt. Mike Shaw:

It does appear at this time that impaired driving is the cause of this crash. While many drivers are aware of the impacts of alcohol while driving, we continue to remind drivers the same is true for drug impairment.

No charges have been filed yet, but the case has been turned over to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.
