Former Michigan State basketball player and Flint native Mateen Cleaves has been charged with sexual assault.

According to CBS Detroit, the Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged the 39-year-old Cleaves with the alleged sexual assault of a 24-year old Michigan woman. Prosecutors say that after a September 2015 charity golf outing, Cleaves and some others went out to a local bar. Thinking she was being driven back to the golf club, Cleaves allegedly took the victim to a motel in West Grand Blanc where he is said to have held her against her will and sexually assaulted her.

Wayne County is handling the case at the request of the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office who's David Leyton has a prior relationship with Cleaves. Wayne County Asst. Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey will prosecute the case in Genesee County.
