Michigan is officially one of the fastest-driving states in the country.

If you’re from the Great Lakes State, this probably won’t come as a shock. Not every Michigander has a lead foot, but plenty do.

Seriously, almost every day I check my rearview mirror and someone’s riding my bumper. I am no Sunday driver, but if the speed limit is 35, I am going 35. Why do so many drivers think the speed limit does not apply to them?

Expressway drivers are a whole different story; some of them drive like they’re in a race.

Okay, now I’m all fired up! I sound like that grumpy 'get off my lawn' guy, except I’m yelling 'slow down!' instead.

So, where does Michigan rank on the top 10 list of fastest drivers in the U.S.?

Surprisingly, Michigan isn’t number one. Here are the fastest-driving states in the U.S., ranked from 1 to 10

  1. Wyomoing
  2. New Mexico
  3. Idaho
  4. South Dakota
  5. Florida
  6. Alabama
  7. Arkansas
  8. Kansas
  9. North Dakota
  10. Michigan

The fact that Florida is on the list tracks. I’ve driven there, too.

So, how was the list of the fastest-driving states in the U.S. determined?

According to WZZM 13, a Money Super Market study compared average speeds from long-distance drives in each state and used that data to come up with the rankings.

Not necessarily rocket science, but okay. All kidding aside, the fact that Michigan made the list is all the proof I need that it’s legit.

Alright now, Michigan drivers, slow down and stay off my lawn!
