Well, this sure isn't a good look for Five Below.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced that nearly 20 Five Below stores across the state have been hit with repeated pricing violations, some happening multiple times.

For those that don't know, Five Below is the discount chain that built its entire identity around cheap in-store prices. You walk in thinking five bucks means five bucks. Turns out that isn’t entirely the case, at least at some Michigan stores anyway.

According to WXYZ, investigators found multiple cases where items clearly marked as $5 were ringing up for $6 or $7 at the register. This isn’t something that happened just once. Oh no. These were repeat issues across several stores, even after Five Below claimed it would retrain employees and clean up its pricing systems.

Officials also say some products weren’t clearly priced at all, meaning shoppers had no clue they were being overcharged until they finally saw their receipt.

Five Below now has until December 15, 2025, to meet with the Attorney General’s office and present a plan to fix the problem. If they don’t, the company could face fines and potential legal action.

So yeah, maybe double-check your receipt before you walk out the door.
