Businesses are closing left and right across Michigan. Whether it’s a locally owned mom-and-pop shop or a major national corporation, it feels like no one is safe in 2025...and that includes banks.

Even though most of us do our banking digitally these days using our computers and phones, it’s still nice to know there’s a physical brick-and-mortar building to go to if need be.

My parents are very old school when it comes to banking—they have no interest in doing it online. Honestly, it’s probably for the best since they can barely navigate their phones as it is. They’d be in real trouble if their local bank closed, so I totally get why some people are upset about the recent bank closure announcement in Michigan.

Major Bank Pulls Out of Several Michigan Cities

According to The Street, Flagstar Bank announced plans to close 60 locations this year. However, as of now, only 28 of those locations have been publicly revealed, and six of them are right here in Michigan.

Due to a major shift in customers' banking habits, like online banking and automated tellers, not as many physical locations are necessary. I’m sure the fact that the company reported an $845 million loss in 2024 didn’t help either.

Here are the six Flagstar Bank locations closing in Michigan:
