Report: Frances Bean Cobain’s Ex to Undergo Psych Evaluation Before Kidnapping Trial
Back in 2016, Frances Bean Cobain and her then husband Isaiah Silva were going through divorce proceedings when Silva reported to police that he was accosted by music manager Sam Lufti, who once oversaw the career of Cobain's mother Courtney Love. Fast forward to 2018, and Silva decided to take legal action against Lufti, Love and others for allegedly breaking into his home and trying to kidnap him. Now, ahead of a potential trial, TMZ reports that Silva will undergo a psych evaluation to determine whether or not his sanity checks out.
According to the 2016 report, Silva told police that Lufti and another suspect grabbed him and carried him to a car. They allegedly took his phone and used bodily force, causing roughly $4,000 dollars worth of damage to the phone and some glass doors at the house that had been smashed. However, the police report was not filed until five days after the alleged incident.
In May of 2018, Silva then filed a lawsuit against Lufti and Love, claiming that Love entered into the conspiracy with Lufti and others "to break into his home, beat him up, kidnap him and try to murder him so they could gain possession of Kurt Cobain's legendary guitar." That guitar would be the one that Cobain played in the MTV Unplugged special shortly before his death.
The guitar became a bone of contention in Frances and Isaiah's divorce proceedings, with Silva arguing that it was gifted to him by Cobain as a wedding present. Eventually Cobain relented and Silva retained the guitar after the divorce was finalized.
Given the nature of the accusations against them, TMZ reports that the defendants sought a psychiatric check of Silva, which is set to take place this morning (July 30). During the check, doctors will supposedly ask a number of questions about the background of what Silva has alleged in his lawsuit and how it continues to affect him today. The examiner's notes are expected to be included in the lawsuit and the psych check will be recorded on audio.
