Are Michigan GameStop Locations Closing for Good?
No, not all GameStop locations in Michigan are closing for good. At least not yet.
When was the last time you popped into a GameStop?
Yeah. That’s probably why more of them are disappearing.
GameStop is still very much in trim-the-fat mode, which is kind of wild considering they shut down nearly 600 stores in 2024. According to Fox 2 Detroit, the company says a “significant number” of additional locations will close before this fiscal year wraps up this month, January 2026.

Honestly, none of this is all that surprising. Fewer people are walking into stores to buy physical games anymore. Most gamers are downloading titles straight to their consoles now, skipping discs entirely. I’m just as guilty as everyone else. It’s the same thing that happened to record stores. Once digital took over, the decline was pretty much inevitable.
Don’t get me wrong, we all love the convenience that comes with streaming and downloading. But it’s still a little sad nonetheless.
And money-wise, things still aren’t great. Revenue is down, and that’s a big reason this keeps happening.
What GameStop Locations Are Closing in Michigan?
GameStop hasn’t released a list of which locations are closing or when. The company has only said that a “significant number” of stores are shutting down during its current fiscal year, which runs through January 2026.
So far, closures have been happening quietly in other states, with little warning. For now, it’s a wait-and-see situation for Michigan locations.
