GWAR vocalist Oderus Urungus, aka Dave Brokie, has regretfully announced his exit from an upcoming Randy Blythe benefit show that was due to take place Aug. 31 in Richmond, Va.

The Gauntlet reports that the singer’s co-host, Eve Alleyne, issued a statement saying, “SORRY to have to tell everyone Dave Brockie will not be able to attend the show due to his recording of the TV series ‘Hollister’! He is really bummed out and wishes he could be here to support his very close friend Randy! We all support you Dave in your adventures! And we will make sure this show rocks their faces off!! xoxox and FREE RANDY !!”

The Brockie has bowed out of the performance, the show will go on as planned at the Canal Club with Little Ozzy, Cannabis Corpse, Gloominous Doom, and others set to take the stage. All proceeds from the show will go to the Lamb of God singer’s defense fund.

The GWAR singer was among the first artists to voice his concern over Randy Blythe’s jailing in the Czech Republic, and he raised issue with the lack of interest by the U.S. media in covering the story. In a series of tweets, he stated, “If this was a pop artist, the media would be all over this. That’s right – I am f—ing appalled by the LACK of concern in the U.S. media for the fate of Randy Blythe … Naw, just because Randy is in a nasty metal band, you can just throw his ass in jail anytime you want. The whole music media should come the f— out and condemn this arrest and detainment.”
