Spring is here and it's time to get rid of your yard waste, hazardous materials, old tires, and more.

While you are doing your spring cleaning and come across hazardous and other materials, these are the places and times you will be able to dispose of them properly.

On Saturday, May 18th, Environmental Rubber Recycling will be offering free tire disposal from 9 am until 1 pm at their Dort Highway location. Auto and light truck tires will be disposed of for free, but no commercial tires will be accepted.

On Saturday, June 8th, Genesee County residents will be able to get rid of hazardous and other materials at two different locations. From 10 am until 2 pm, residents can drop off the following items at either Flint East - Water Service Center or at Fenton High School.

Accepted items for free Recycle Day:

  • Oil-based paints and solvents
  • Aerosols
  • Corrosives (acids/bases)
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Reactives/Oxidizers
  • Automotive fluids
  • Mercury
  • Fluorescent bulbs and tubes
  • Electronics (any and all kinds)
  • Prescription medication
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Smoke detectors
  • Tires (up to 10, off the rim, no tractor tires)
  • Propane cylinders
  • Batteries (household and auto)
  • Biomedical sharps

Items that will NOT be accepted:

  • Appliances
  • Construction materials
  • Industrial tires and waste
  • Paper/documents for shredding
  • 55-gallon drums of waste
  • Radioactive materials
  • Compressed gas cylinders
  • Garbage
  • Yard Waste
  • Weapons
  • Agricultural tires and waste
  • Explosives
  • Ammunition
  • Tires ON the rim
  • Fireworks
