Michigan Restaurant Expands: New Location Opening Date Revealed

A new restaurant is close to opening in Wayne County.

This well-loved Midwestern chain is famous for its impressive craft beer lineup and its iconic Cosmik Fries. The special fries are beer-battered, crispy, and seasoned with cracked black pepper - so good.

What new restaurant is opening in Southgate, Michigan?

If you guessed HopCat, you are correct. The first HopCat opened in Michigan in 2008. The new Southgate location will be HopCat’s 12th spot in the Great Lakes State. Other locations include the following,

• Lincoln
• Kalamazoo
• Beltline
• Holland
• Royal Oak
• Livonia
• Partridge Creek

Where is HopCat opening in Southgate?

HopCat is opening at15231 Trenton Road. According to the Detroit Metro Times, the building was formerly Old Chicago Pizza and Taproom.

The latest HopCat will officially open doors on Monday, June 30th, 2025.

The official grand opening is Saturday, July 12th, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Get this, the first 200 customers through the door will score free Cosmik Fries for one year.

I didn’t realize until today that HopCat’s fries were originally called 'Crack Fries.' Some folks found the name a bit too controversial, so they changed it to Cosmik Fries

I’m super excited to check out this new spot once it opens. I’ve been to the HopCat in Grand Rapids before, and I really liked it. The vibe, the drinks, and the food were definitely on point.
