Waterskiers Encounter A Moose In The Portage Canal
A couple of Michigan Tech students were out waterskiing on the Portage canal recently and captured something incredible on video.

It wasn't one of them doing a cool trick, or a bald eagle diving down and grabbing a fish out of the water.
They captured on video a very unexpected sight: a giant animal was traveling through the canal.

In a video posted online you see a moose standing in the canal wondering what the heck is going on.
As the boat continues on, a man on waterskies appears and you can see the moose in the background.
After the man on the waterski passes, you can see the moose staring in that direction.
It's awesome this moment was captured on video, but I can't stop thinking what would have happened if the man fell into the water?
I did some quick googling to find out how fast a moose can run, and how fast they can swim, and I have to tell you I was a bit freaked out by what I found.

An adult moose can run at speeds up to 26mph, the fastest human on record is Usain Bolt who hit 27.8 mph.
When it comes to swimming, moose can travel at speeds up to 6 mph, while Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps has hit top speeds of 5.5-6 mph at his peak.
Thankfully the man stayed up on his waterski and the moose continued on his way with no problem.
