Did You See Shaq Thank The DeVos Family on TV?
If you weren't watching Inside the NBA on TNT Thursday night then you missed Shaquille O'Neal aka Shaq thanking the Devos Family of Michigan.
On Thursday night at during the show, it was announced that the Orlando Magic will be retiring Shaquille O'Neal's No. 32 jersey to honor his significant impact on the team during his four seasons with them from 1992-1996.
O'Neal will be the first player in the franchise's history to have his number retired, and the ceremony is set to take place on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Shaq was drafted by the Orlando Magic in 1992.
After finding out about his jersey being retired Shaquille O'Neal thanked the DeVos family on TV, expressing his appreciation and saying,
"I wish the old man was still alive, Rich DeVos. He meant a lot to me and his family."
What Is Shaq's Connection To The DeVos Family?
Richard DeVos purchased the Magic in 1991 for $85 million, and the family has kept ownership since then through their RDV Sports, Inc.
Dan DeVos serves as the chairman of the Orlando Magic and a member of the NBA Board of Governors, focusing on long-term strategic planning for the organization and new business initiatives.
While this will be the first time the Orlando Magic have retired a player's jersey, Shaq has had his jersey retired by several other teams he played for in his career.
The Los Angeles Lakers retired his No. 34 jersey in 2013.
The Miami Heat retired his No. 32 jersey in 2016.
