They beat out several nationally-known chains across the country, including Cold Stone, Ben & Jerry's and Greater's, according to Fox17.

I got to know Kilwins for their fudge on Mackinac Island, and really never thought about the ice cream they had been making. But a lot of people did and voted for them big time.

They were just thinking about top-of-the-line baked goods, fudge and other hand-crafted chocolates. But over the years they started creating their own ice cream and it really took off.

It has been nearly 80-years and fans throughout Michigan, and visitors from all over the U.S. have come to be amazed by their hand-crafted ice cream.

Today Kilwins has stores over much of the country, including two here in Grand Rapids, downtown on Monroe Center and in East Grand Rapids' Gaslight Village. They are even in Hollywood on Hollywood Blvd.

Visiting a Kilwins is always a "sweet experience!"  The Kilwins folks say:

“Ice cream has a way of bringing people together, and for generations, Kilwins has been part of those moments, from vacation traditions and family outings to a simple scoop at the end of the day. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who voted and continue to make Kilwins part of their traditions.”

Yep, you scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream!
