Winter Storm Watches are up for a large swath of Mid-Michigan as ingredients appear to be coming together this Wednesday night into Thursday for the biggest snowstorm we've seen so far this season..

According to WILX News 10 Chief Meteorologist Darrin Rockcole in Lansing, the biggest snow the capital city has seen so far during the winter of 2024-25 was on December 20. A total of 4.5" was recorded on that date.

A snow event beginning Wednesday evening and continuing through the night into Thursday morning could dump more than half a foot of snow onto parts of Mid-Michigan, according to the latest forecasts from various weather sources.

How Much Snow Is AccuWeather Predicting for Mid-Michigan?

AccuWeather is currently predicting that most of Mid-Michigan will see between 6-10" of snow in association with the midweek system.

Some areas south and east of Lansing - from Jackson to Stockbridge to Howell - could see lesser totals in the 4-6" range. Some pockets might not even see that much.

How Much Snow Is the National Weather Service Predicting for Mid-Michigan?

The National Weather Service believes most of Mid-Michigan will see 5-7" of snow, with highest amounts to the north. NWS forecasters caution that freezing rain may mix in briefly, tamping down snow totals.

The National Weather Service is likely to upgrade the Winter Storm Watches into Winter Storm Warnings or Winter Weather Advisories sometime on Tuesday.

How Much Snow Are Local TV Meteorologists Predicting?

For his part, WILX's Darrin Rockcole says "a 4-8′' snowfall is expected midday Wednesday into early Thursday morning. Snowfall could be greater than 8′' in a few areas."
