If you have traveled I-69 in Lapeer County, the odds are you have gotten off at the Imlay City exit for a bite to eat. And, although there are plenty of great food options within a quarter mile from the exit, those that knew would drive that extra couple miles to 3rd Street and make that left into the downtown area of Imlay City.

Why? Because that was where you would get some of the best Mexican cuisine around, at Nacho's Taco House in Imlay City, Michigan. Check out the end of this article for a video of the restaurant owners packing the final meal together.

An Imlay City Staple Quietly Closes Its Doors

Well, as we know, all good things must come to an end eventually. But this absence will be felt in the community for a few reasons.

For 40 years, Nacho's Taco House of Imlay City has provided authentic Mexican (and American) food that people would go the extra mile for. From their homemade chips and salsa, to their tacos and burritos, to their enchiladas and fajitas, and everything in between. Nacho's was truly a must-stop destination for Imlay City residents, Lapeer County residents, and beyond.

Everyone Deserves to Retire Eventually

Ever hear the phrase '30 and Out' when it comes to retirement? Nacho and Irene Ramirez obviously hadn't, because they kept their business going strong for 40 years, a major accomplishment for any business.

After a long, steady run in the area, the couple decided to enjoy some well-deserved retirement time together after 40 years in business.

You can still see the final 'Thank You' post on the Nacho's Facebook page, which is quite touching, to say the least. You can feel their appreciation through those final words. They mention that without the stress of running the restaurant, the couple might actually go on a little vacation together, just the two of them. This is something they have never done in the entirety of their marriage.

This picture was taken just after their final order was completed. So much emotion comes from that photo, even without seeing their faces.

Here is a picture of their final 'thank you' post, as well as some of the comments that followed.

So, as we say goodbye to an Imlay City staple, we wish the Ramirez family, and their wonderful staff, the best of luck in their future endeavors.

Enjoy this video of Nacho and Irene completing their final order together.

And, as soon as we get more information on the future of the building, there will be updates to come.
