Gas powered lawn equipment under fire.
Ann Arbor's city council has voted 10-0 in favor of a new ordinance to ban gas-powered leaf blowers, according to MLive.
Council has deemed the machines noisy, air polluters and a health risk to users.
Is Ann Arbor's Leaf Blower Ban Immediate?
The ban is being implemented over the course of four years.
- Effective immediately gas-powered leaf blowers can be used only in the months of October through May (no summer usage effective 2024).
- January 1, 2028, there will be a complete ban on gas-powered leaf blowers in Ann Arbor.
Of course, exceptions exist.
- Contractors can use them while working on construction projects involving streets, sidewalks and paving.
- Emergency situations like cleaning up after storm damage, health, safety and property clearing are allowed.
What is the Ann Arbor Leaf Blower Ordinance Penalty?
Fines will be in the form of tickets issued by police when someone complains.
- $100 first offense
- $250 for second offense and any additional offenses.
Fines collected for violations will be put "toward helping low-income residents and small businesses purchase electric leaf blowers."
