Did Ya Hear the One About Jelly Roll Getting Free Food at a Michigan Burger King?
There's a heartwarming anecdote going around right now about a Michigan couple that bought Jelly Roll a meal at Burger King because they thought he was homeless.
It's a sweet story. But there's one little thing: It's not true.
Jelly Roll Makes Multiple Michigan Appearances
Jelly has been in the news a lot lately. (He and I are on a first-name basis.) He visited the Genesee County Jail this weekend (7/27) to dedicate the county's new 'Jailhouse Music Studio." The initiative, led by Sheriff Chris Swanson, allows inmates to grow and express their creativity through music. There's also an opportunity to learn the art of music production and mixing, one of the many rehabilitative opportunities recently introduced through the county's Ignite program.
After his stop at the Genesee County Jail - where Jelly Roll was officially deputized by Sheriff Swanson, the country rapper headed to Midland, where he performed for a crowd of about 1,500 at the Midland County fairgrounds.

He'll be visiting the Mitten State once again this fall when Jelly's 'Beautifully Broken' tour makes a stop at Little Caesars Arena on November 6.
Jelly Roll Did Not Get a Free Meal at Burger King in Midland
We all enjoy seeing stories about people doing charitable things out of the goodness of their hearts. So it was nice to see a post by the Midland Gazette that gave praise to a local couple for buying Jelly Roll lunch at the Burger King in Midland.
According to the Gazette, Jill and Arthur Newsom were on a Saturday date when they spotted a disheveled man at the restaurant and offered him a little help.
"Mistaking him for a down-on-his-luck homeless man, they offered to pay for his order."
It's convincing, and yes I fell for it at first. The post goes on to say that Mrs. Newsom volunteers at a local homeless shelter and likened the singer to some of her clients.
But Here's the Real Deal
There is a newspaper in Midland, Michigan, and it's called the Daily News, not the Gazette. The Gazette is a Facebook page that specializes in satire. We figured that out because it says 'satire/parody' in the page's description.
But if you fell for it, you're not alone. As of today, there are more than 6,000 comments on the post, mostly from people heaping praise on the Newsoms for their generosity.
