A Flint-area man who believed a movie character was his doppelganger bought a lottery ticket on a hunch, and it paid off in a big way.

Genesee County Man Draws Inspiration From a Movie Character

The 26-year-old Genesee County resident tells the Michigan Lottery that he was watching a movie and noticed that the main character looked a lot like him. That movie character won a lottery jackpot, so the man figured that was a sign that he should buy a lottery ticket.

"Later that day, I was with some friends and scratched the ticket. When I saw I’d won $500,000, I couldn’t believe my eyes!" he said. "I wanted to make sure what I was seeing was real before sharing the news with my friends, so I went into the bathroom to look the ticket over again. Once I confirmed what I was seeing, I called my girlfriend to tell her the good news. I feel so blessed to win this amount of money!"

What Movie Character Inspired This Man to Buy a Lottery Ticket?

This begs the question, What movie inspired this Genesee County resident to buy a lottery ticket?

The Flint-area resident didn't share what movie's character is his look-a-like but it makes us wonder if he's talking about Jerry Selbee, the Michigan man who cracked the code and went on to win a bundle from the Michigan Lottery.

'Jerry and Marge Go Large' was a 2022 movie starring Bryan Cranston, and it was loosely based on Jerry and Marge Selbee, the West Michigan residents who turned a few thousand dollars into a small fortune playing the now-retired Winfall game.

We may never know the answer.

What we do know is that the lucky player purchased hi winning ticket at the E-Z Sto Food Mart on North Saginaw Stree in Flint.
