Lack of Lifeguards Forces Waterford Waterpark to Close for 2021 Season
I haven't been to Waterford Oaks Waterpark in years but I'm always telling my son that we need to go because he was too little to remember the last time we were there. Of Course, I promised him that I would take him there this summer and now they're going to be closed for the 2021 season. We were supposed to go last summer but we all know what happened there.
Waterford Oaks Waterpark will not be open for the entire 2021 season because they apparently were not able to hire enough lifeguards to staff the park.
Oakland County Parks and Recreation made the announcement this week via Facebook.
We appreciate the patience of our dedicated staff who have been working since January to recruit and hire staff for all our facilities. Unfortunately, lifeguard recruiting has been an issue the last few years in the county, state and nation. OCPR will not operate a facility if we are unable to provide the adequate safety level for our guests and staff.
Now, while all of this sucks for those that wanted to go this year, there is another option for you. Oakland County Parks and Recreation also operates Red Oaks Waterpark, located in Madison Heights and they're encouraging you to go there instead. Well, with Waterford Oaks Waterpark being closed, we really don't have a choice if a waterpark is on the agenda this summer.
Red Oaks Waterpark offers a children’s splash pad, wave-action pool, giant triple waterslide, bathhouse, picnic areas, lockers, free tubes and lounge chairs.
