It’s the documentary film that rock fans have been waiting all year to get a glimpse of — and now Dave Grohl has obliged with a couple of clips from ‘Sound City,’ his upcoming tribute to the legendary studio of the same name.

The full-length film will reportedly include interviews with a wide variety of artists, including Tom Petty and Trent Reznor, and the first two clips run the rock gamut — in the first, Grohl talks with Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich about all the things that made him want to get into the business, including his formative experiences with the music of AOR legends Deep Purple.

In the second clip, Grohl heads to the other end of the rock spectrum, sitting down with REO Speedwagon frontman Kevin Cronin for a trip down memory lane in which Cronin recalls the way his parents supported his early noodling on his grandmother’s piano. It’s indicative of the sweetly nostalgic overall tone Grohl appears to be aiming for, although fans who haven’t seen Cronin since his ’80s heyday may be a little alarmed to see that he’s traded in his curly mullet for a short bleached-blond ‘do.

No official release date has yet been announced for the film, although Grohl is reportedly hoping to have it out in early 2013. Watch both clips, and the official trailer, below.
