MI Bottle Return Service Suspended During Stay-At-Home Order
The stay-at-home order given by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has also caused the suspension of Michigan deposit bottle services during this coronavirus outbreak.
Starting today (Tuesday, 3/24/20,) the Michigan Beer and Wine Wholesalers Association, Midwest Independent Retailers Association and the Michigan Retailers Association advised retailers and distributors to stop accepting empty deposit bottles and cans. Other states have also suspended the program in Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, Oregon, and Vermont.
Of course, that is unfortunate for people who have a stockpile in their garage and could use the money. I know I am one of those people as well because I probably have upwards of $40 in cans and bottles saved up. On the other hand, I'm just looking at it as money in the bank and savings for when with is all over. That amount will also grow knowing that I can get Coors Light delivered to my house.
