Michigan Beaches That Are Closed for High Bacteria Levels
One of the first things many of us want to do over the warm 4th of July holiday weekend is hit up a beach. Before you pack up the kids, your cooler, and the car, you're going to want to check out this list of beaches that will be closed going into the holiday weekend.
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality posted multiple beaches across the state that are either closed or facing closure mainly due to high bacteria levels.

- Park Lake - Bath Township Park Lake Beach in Clinton County - Closed due to high bacteria levels
- Keweenaw Bay/Lake Superior - First Sand Beach in Baraga County - Contamination advisory
- Portage Canal/Lake Superior - Houghton City Beach in Houghton County - Closed due to a fuel spill from a gas tanker that overturned last month.
- Handsome Lake - Crossroads For Youth on Oakland County - Closed due to high bacteria levels from storm runoff.
- Crooked Lake - Independence Oaks County Park in Oakland County - Closed due to high bacteria levels from storm runoff.
- Lake St. Clair - St. Clair Shores Memorial Park Beach in Macomb County - Closed due to high bacteria levels.
- Saginaw Bay-Lake Huron - Singing Bridge Beach in Arenac County - Closed Tuesday because of high bacteria levels
- Pontiac Lake - Pontiac Recreation Area in Oakland County - Closed due to high bacteria levels from storm runoff.
- Bush Lake - Holly Village Beach in Oakland County - Closed due to high bacteria levels.
- Silver Lake - City Park Beach in Genesee County - Closed due to high bacteria levels.
- Ross Lake - Beaverton City Park in Gladwin County - Contamination advisory
While that is a lot of beaches that are dealing with bacteria levels, it's not all the beaches in Michigan. There are thousands of beaches across that state that you can visit this holiday weekend.
