These Michigan Cities Have Banned Door-to-Door Solicitors
There’s nothing more annoying than sitting down at the dinner table after a long day at work, only to have the doorbell unexpectedly ding. You peek out the window, hoping it’s a neighbor or a package—nope.
You open the door, and standing there is someone you don’t know, trying to sell you windows, roofing, insect prevention, or who knows what else. Some of these people can be very pushy and hard to get rid of.
Well, some Michigan cities are just as sick of it as you are, and they’ve actually done something about it.
How to Stop Unwanted Door-to-Door Sales in Michigan
Several communities across the state have adopted what’s known as a Do Not Knock Registry. It’s part of a larger program that lets residents officially opt out of door-to-door sales. Sounds pretty awesome, right?
In many cases, you can sign up online and get a sticker or decal to put near your front door. Once you’re on the registry, licensed solicitors are supposed to skip your house entirely.
How to Sign Up for a Do Not Knock Registry in Michigan
Unfortunately, it’s not a statewide thing; only certain cities have put these rules in place. And if yours isn’t one of them, you’re still fair game.
Michigan Cities with Do Not Knock Registries
Places like Troy, Novi, Royal Oak, Clawson, and Auburn Hills all have Do Not Knock registries where you can sign up and get a sticker or decal to put on your door. Once you’re on the list, solicitors are supposed to stay away.
If your city hasn't jumped on board yet, don’t worry, more towns are considering it.
According to Fox 2 Detroit, Hazel Park could be next.
