Michigan Father Angry After Teacher Cuts Daughter’s Hair
A mount Pleasant father is extremely upset off after a classmate and teacher cut his 7-year-old daughter's hair on two separate occasions.
According to WNEM, on March 24, the little girl arrived home from Ganiard Elementary in Mount Pleasant with much of the hair on one side cut. She said a classmate used scissors to cut her hair on the school bus.
Jimmy Hoffmeyer, the girl's father was upset over what had happened so he complained to the principal but it doesn't sound like much came of it. He said the school told him they would talk to the classmates' parents about the situation. I mean there's not much you can do to a little kid that age that does something stupid like that.
A couple of days after the incident, Hoffmeyer took his daughter to the salon to get her hair fixed. They did the best of their ability to even out her sides so it looked less obvious that it had been cut. After getting her hair fixed she went back to school only to come home crying again.
She was crying. She was afraid of getting in trouble for getting her hair cut.
I asked what happened and said ‘I thought I told you no child should ever cut your hair.' She said ‘but dad, it was the teacher.
Yes, her freaking library teacher cut her hair to apparently even it out.
Again, he reached out to the principal who said she didn't have the authority to do anything to the teacher aside from putting a note in her file about the incident. He added. “She kept asking me what she could do to make it go away.” I bet she regrets saying that now.
Finally, the superintendent contacted him after about a week and said they could send “I’m sorry” cards to the family. What the hell is that going to do? Someone needs to held accountable and needs to be disciplined or fired over this.
That teacher had no right whatsoever to cut that child's hair.
Hoffmeyer is working with the National Parents Union, a national network of parent organizations and activists that advocate improving the quality of life for children.
It kind of reminds me of the time when I was little and put gum in a girl's hair on the school bus. She had to get her long blonde hair all cut off. Needless to say, my parents weren't happy and I got in big trouble. At least I can laugh about it 40 years later.
