Michigan Gym Closes After 20 Years
Everything about this freaking pandemic sucks.
Blue Moon Fitness in Battle Creek had to close it's doors this week after being open for the past 20 years. The reason for closing...COVID-19 and the restrictions put in place by the state.
According to Battle Creek Enquirer, owner Joel Potter kept Blue Moon Fitness open during the height of the shutdowns in June for a time despite a state order that all indoor fitness facilities were to be closed. That was something a lot of gyms were doing at the time to simply try and stay afloat. All of it was just too much for Potter and his gym.
Blue Moon Fitness owner Joel Potter:
It is with great sadness that, after over 20 years of serving the Battle Creek community, this facility has closed. This location has struggled financially for years and was only able to stay open because it was subsidized by our other locations. The final devastating blow was the impact of COVID-19 and the policies of the State of Michigan in responding to (COVID). Blue Moon Fitness – Battle Creek can be added to the list of hundreds, if not thousands, of tax-paying businesses that were not given a fighting chance to survive.
I had Fox News on in the background while I was getting ready for work this morning and they were interviewing the owner about the closure. While listening to him talk it just broke my heart to think of all the Michigan businesses that were going under because of all of this. I just don't think it's fair.
