The holiday season is all about giving.

Deer hunters in the state of Michigan did just that this past rifle season by donating over a half ton of venison for the Eastern Michigan Food Banks. The donations were a result of the Food Bank Council of Michigan, Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources working together for this great cause.

Hunters from across the state brought in a total of 25 deer to Jay's Sporting Goods in Clare last month. Carson Village Market in Carson City stepped up and volunteered to process the 1,116 pounds of venison that are now located at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan in Flint. The meat will be distributed to food banks across the state for the holiday season.
