This past weekend I heard fireworks going off like crazy, actually some of the loudest ones I'd ever heard. I didn't think twice about it because it was the weekend leading up to the 4th of July. What I didn't realize was that those fireworks were being set off illegally.

I had no idea that fireworks were only legal the day before the 4th, on the 4th and the day after. I rarely buy fireworks so I guess I never really paid attention. I'm not someone who gets all pissed off if their neighbors are setting off fireworks, it just doesn't bother me. I know some people have some real a-hole neighbors though who blast fireworks at 2 am, so I get that.

According to ABC12, if you're launching fireworks into the air outside of that 3-day window, you could face up to a $500 fine.

None of this even entered my mind until I got a letter from my homeowner's association stating the Michigan law.
