I’ll be honest, I had no clue Planned Parenthood ever offered vasectomies in the first place. I always thought of them for other services. Turns out, they were doing them years ago, stopped, and now they’re bringing them back in Michigan.

Why Vasectomy Demand Is Rising in Michigan

This didn’t come out of nowhere. According to ABC 12,  since abortion access changed at the federal level, more couples are looking for permanent birth control options. For a lot of people, a vasectomy just feels like the obvious move.

If you know you’re done having kids or never planned on having them in the first place, this is one of those decisions that just makes sense.

That’s where Planned Parenthood of Michigan comes in. They’ve restarted vasectomy services at their Irwin Martin health center in Grand Rapids, with more locations around Michigan expected to roll out later this year.

How Much Does a Vasectomy Cost at Planned Parenthood?

The procedure is for adults 21 and up. If you’re paying out of pocket, it runs $800, and that includes the consultation. They’re also in-network with many insurance plans, which is a big deal. Hospital-based vasectomies can take six to eight months to even get on the calendar. This moves a whole lot faster.

What the Procedure Is Actually Like

It’s a no-scalpel vasectomy. That alone takes some of the pressure off for a lot of guys. The whole thing takes under an hour, no general anesthesia, and most people head home the same day. I actually had this done back in 2005. Not fun, but honestly not that big of a deal.
