97-Year-Old Michigan Woman Relives Cheerleader Days And Wins Hearts
Gene Doehring of Michigan is indeed proof that age is just a number.
Doehring, 97, recently relived her cheerleader days with the help of Merrill Vandal cheer squad at Candlestone Assisted Living in Midland, where she resides. Gene was on the first-ever cheer team at Merrill High School and even helped create the first team uniforms, sewing, and all.
The fun happened on Wednesday, November 13th, 2024, and was captured by Candlestone Assisted Living Wellness Coordinator, Arielle Radick.

It is no surprise that Gene's story has been picked up by countless media outlets, locally and internationally by the Daily Mail in London. How cool is that?
According to ABC 12, to this day Gene Doehring can still recite her favorite cheer,
'Come on team fight, come on team fight, come on team, come on team, fight fight fight!'
Now, that's the spirit!
As you can imagine, the reaction to this has been awesome on social media. You can read some of the comments from people in the post below.
We certainly want to recognize the staff at Candlestone Assisted Living & Memory Care and the Merrill High School cheerleaders for making this happen.
