Michigan Woman Wins $500K Thanks to Clerk’s Suggestion

A Marquette County store clerk's suggestion paid off big for one Michigan woman.

Amanda Hughes of Gwinn won $500,000 on a Wild Time 50X Michigan Lottery instant scratch-off ticket.

CBS News reports that Hughes,42, initially planned to buy a $20 Wild Time game ticket, but the store was sold out. A clerk at the Kwik Trip in Marquette recommended the Wild Time 50X instead - and fortunately, Amanda took the suggestion.

As you can imagine, Hughes was in complete disbelief when she found out she had won.

When I scratched the ticket off and saw the prize of $500,000, I wasn't sure if it was real at first. I thought I must not have read the instructions correctly, so I reread them and then went back into the store to scan the ticket and have the clerk look at it. It was surreal when I realized I really had just won $500,000!

Hughes called the big win life-changing. She plans to use the money to buy a house and set aside the rest for her children’s future.
