78-Year-Old Mid-Michigan Man Wins $1M – Wife Thought It Was a Dream
A 78-year-old Ionia County man is still in disbelief after winning a $1 million Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery earlier this month.
Not only did his wife not believe him, she literally thought the whole thing was nothing more than a dream she'd had the night before.

According to WZZM, Charles Wolthuis matched the numbers for the Oct. 2 drawing after buying the winning ticket at Purk's in Ionia.
Wolthuis made a call to his daughter to confirm that what he thought he was seeing was real. He knew that he matched all five numbers but honestly didn't know what he had won. After asking his daughter to double-check his numbers, she confirmed that he in fact had won $1 million.
It's difficult to imagine the emotions he must have felt at that very moment. Your heart must race with excitement, all while being in disbelief over what had just happened. It's got to be a whirlwind of emotions.
He decided to wake up his wife to give her the good news. Unfortunately, she didn't believe him and went back to sleep.
Charles Wolthuis:
I woke up my wife and told her we won $1 million, but she thought I was kidding and went back to bed. When she woke up, she told me she had a dream that we won the Lottery. I said: ‘We did! That wasn’t a dream, we won $1 million!
What Does the Ionia County Man Plan to Do With His Winnings?
Wolthuis says he plans to pay off his home and buy a new truck with the prize.
