No, It’s Not Snowing – It’s a Swarm of Nasty Fishflies in Michigan
There's gross and then there's watching fishflies as they invade Saint Clair Shores, Michigan. If you're squeamish when it comes to insects, this will gross you out.
A Tik Tok user recently shared a video of her and some friends driving around when all of a sudden, they got caught in a massive fishfly swarm.
In the funny video below, you'll watch the girls freak out as they pull into what looks like a winter wonderland. However, it's a McDonald's parking lot. It literally looks like it's snowing but it's not, it's a swarm of fishflies.
The number of fish flies that are flying around is insane, they're everywhere. At one point, you'll see a car drive by that is completely covered by those nasty things.
The best part of the video is the Christmas music that is playing along while the girls are screaming.
What Are Fishflies?
A Fishfly is considered an aquatic insect that plays a very important role in the ecosystem. They're a vital source of food for fish, frogs, toads, birds, and even some reptiles.
According to WebMD, they start their lives as eggs laid on the surface of water. The eggs sink to the bottom and hatch into aquatic nymphs. Then they come up to the water’s surface to shed into a subadult and then, after a few hours, they shed again into reproductive adults.
Not everyone calls them fishflies, that's a Michigan thing. We call them fishflies because they stink like fish. Other states refer to the bugs as mayflies, which is technically the correct name.
