One Michigan school district just made a bold move and decided to ban all cellphones for the 2025–2026 school year. Starting next fall, every school in the district will be completely phone-free.

The topic has been the center of debate for quite some time now, and while some schools have already implemented partial restrictions, this district is taking it a step further with a full-blown ban across all grade levels.

Some parents are outraged over the policy. It’s like they just can’t cut the cord and feel it’s important to be able to reach their kids at any time. But if something is truly urgent, you can call the school and have the message delivered.

Cellphones are a major distraction in school, and this policy is long overdue. Every school district in Michigan should follow suit.

What Michigan School District is Banning Cellphones?

According to WXYZ, the Anchor Bay School District announced this month that its "Away for the Day" policy will go into effect for the 2025–2026 school year.

Students will still be allowed to bring their phones to school, but they’ll be required to turn them off and store them in lockers or cubbies at the start of the day. The policy also applies to personal laptops, smartwatches, earbuds, and headphones.

Kids need to be cut off from these devices, and making that happen every day during class time will be a huge benefit to their mental health, not to mention the positive impact it could have on their grades.
