Petco to Stop Selling Pet Food With Artificial Colors, Flavors and Preservatives
I hate it when I hear someone say something along the lines of "I just buy cheap dog food, I mean who cares, it's just a dog." That's like saying you only buy cheap garbage food for your kid because well, it's just a kid. Pets are family and need to be taken care of like family members.
According to ABC12, Petco says it will stop selling dog and cat food and treats with artificial colors, flavors and preservatives by May, both online and at its nearly 1,500 stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
The main reason is the demand for healthy, natural foods for pets.
I didn't realize how much garbage food was out there until I had to find something healthier for my dog due to his insane allergies. My dog is allergic to chicken and I found out chicken meal is in nearly everything including treats. It took a long time for me to narrow the problem and find a food that doesn't carry chicken meal in it. While searching for the right food, I had to go through the ingredients of so many different brands. That's when I understood the absolute garbage people were feeding their pets.
ABC12 also reported that The U.S. market share of natural pet products more than doubled to 6.5 percent between 2013 and 2017, according to Nielsen, a data company.
I hope other pets stores follow suit.
