Owned by Detroit-area businessman and film house entrepreneur John H. Kunsky, the venue, known as the "Kunsky Royal Oak," opened to a sold-out audience in 1928. With fancy designs and stylish furniture, this art-deco movie palace quickly became one of Detroit's top suburban theaters. In 1978, they started hosting live shows, and that's when it became the Royal Oak Music Theatre.
