Brace Yourself, Michigan—A Pollen Bomb is About to Explode
If you're a Michigan allergy sufferer, you know just how bad things can get in the spring. Well, I'm here to tell you that it's going to be downright brutal this year.
Many experts say that the 2025 spring allergy season is shaping up to be one of the worst in many years, due to an unusually cold winter and the warmer, drier weather that's ahead.
Those same experts have been throwing around the term 'pollen bomb,' which I’ve never heard before, but apparently, it’s the best way to describe spring 2025. For allergy sufferers like myself, it sounds pretty terrifying.
What is a Pollen Bomb?
While it’s not an official term, a pollen bomb is when Mother Nature decides to drop a ridiculous amount of pollen all at once, making life miserable for allergy sufferers. It happens when trees, grasses, and other plants go into major overdrive, dumping massive amounts of pollen into the air, usually thanks to a mix of weather conditions as mentioned above.
The good news is that it’s not going to be as bad in Michigan as it will be in other parts of the country, especially the Northeast. However, that doesn’t mean it’s not going to suck.
As bad as allergies are expected to be in the U.S. this year, Michigan didn’t even make the top 20 list of the most insufferable cities when it comes to seasonal allergies. While that’s encouraging, don’t expect it to be anything less than awful.
The best advice I can give is to stay indoors, keep your windows closed, and run your air conditioner when possible. I know, it’s easier said than done.
