‘The Batman’ TV Spot Gives First Glimpse of New Trailer
It’s been a long time since we got a new trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman. The first one arrived last August, at the inaugural edition of DC’s online convention, FanDome. A little over a year later, there’s finally a new TV spot, this one promoting the upcoming arrival of a second trailer at — where else? — the 2021 version of DC FanDome.
This TV spot is largely drawn from last summer’s initial trailer, and features much of the same footage of Robert Pattinson as Batman, the new Batmobile, a few fleeting glimpses of a cat burglar, and Batman brawling with police officers. It’s also got looks at the new version of the Penguins, and the Dark Knight in the middle of a violent firefight. Watch it below:
Although the film does not yet have an official synopsis, we do know that The Batman is about a young Bruce Wayne in the early days of his Batman career. In addition to Pattison, the cast also includes Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. The film was written by Matt Reeves and Peter Craig and grew out of attempts to create a solo film for Ben Affleck’s Batman from the Zack Snyder DC movies.
When Affleck decided he wanted to only star in the film and not direct it, Reeves was hired as his replacement. As he worked on the screenplay, the story shifted to that of a younger Batman and eventually Affleck left the movie entirely. (Affleck will still reprise his role as an older Batman in the upcoming movie of The Flash.)
The Batman is scheduled to open in theaters on March 4, 2022. The new full trailer for the film premieres on October 16 during the DC FanDome online event.
