I was a little saddened to hear that the very last Kmart in Michigan was closing its doors for good. While I was saddened by this, I was also surprised that there was still one left in the state.

The last Kmart in Michigan is in Marshall which is about a 20-minute drive east of Battle Creek. They are sadly preparing to shut their doors. The plan is to be closed for good by Nov. 21. If you live in that area and you're looking for some temporary work, you'll be happy to know they're hiring temporary employees to help with the closing of the store.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Kmart has been shuttering locations for decades and the Marshall store, 15861 Michigan Ave., has been the last one in Michigan since 2020.

Hopefully, they don't end up with the same situation that happened after Kmart in Grand Blanc closed years ago. After they closed in 2014, that building has been sitting there empty which has become nothing more than an eyesore. That Kmart store closed the same year the retailer closed its Lapeer, Flint Township and Burton locations in Genesee County.

Prior to starting my radio career, I worked at Kmart in Romeo for a few years. I think I worked there after I graduated high school (1992) until I turned 21 and graduated from broadcasting school. I'm not going to lie, I loved that job. I worked in shipping and receiving with four older ladies that I miss to this day.

After this closing in Marshall, there will only be around 15 Kmart stores left in the country.
