Michigan Travelers: TSA Just Banned These Items From Checked Bags
If you’re someone who doesn’t travel all that much, it may be a little confusing when it comes to what you can and cannot take on the plane. Whether it is items in your carry-on or your checked luggage, TSA rules are not always the easiest to keep straight.
For example, TSA recently announced that passengers will no longer have to remove their shoes at security. That is great news for anyone who felt super uncomfortable standing in the middle of the airport with their shoes off.
But at the same time, TSA added another rule that is not so fun, especially if you like your hair looking good when you travel. Certain styling tools are now banned from checked bags, and if you travel with them, this could easily trip you up at the airport.
TSA Bans Certain Styling Tools From Checked Bags
The latest crackdown? Cordless curling irons and flat irons.
Here is the deal. According to MLive, if your curling iron or flat iron runs on butane (which, honestly, I did not even know was a thing) or lithium batteries, it is no longer allowed in checked bags. And do not even think about bringing extra cartridges. Those are banned from both checked and carry-on.
What You Can Still Pack in Your Luggage
Good news, though, there’s a loophole. You can still bring your cordless iron in your carry-on, as long as it has a safety cover to keep it from accidentally firing up at 30,000 feet. Nobody wants that.

The good news? Your old-school, plug-in curling irons and straighteners are still fair game in both checked and carry-on bags.
